Topic 132: People remember special gifts or presents that they have received. Why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

--------------------------

I was wondering about a question “Why people remember special gifts that they have received?” I took my time, served with myself a cup of ice tea, lit up a cigarette, and began to think about it. Meanwhile, I was whispered to my ear that people remember gifts simply because they not only remind us of the senders but also help them appreciate the past.

Every time we look at a gift, the first thing crossing our mind may be its sender. It is one of our friends, relatives, parents, or even teachers. I will never forget Z, the first lover of mine. She sent me a very nice hand-made card exactly on our the very first Valentine’s Day. I was so happy at that time, because the card with her best regards was the most substantial evidence to prove how deep her love for me is. Up to now, even though our love has become a history, that card is always in my mind; and each time I see it, her figure does return.

Presents likewise pinpoint special events in our life. It seems to me that everybody remembers precisely when and where he/her was given the presents. Each one has his/her own moment, for example, his/her birthday once a year. The birthday presents really mark our growing, from a little child with toys or dolls to a smart pupil with books, pens, or stories, else, from a student to a real adult. In addition, wedding presents also can hardly be forgotten. My parents still show their gifts they received 30 years ago on their wedding to me, with their pride and happiness.

All in all, carefully keeping and always remembering gifts really make us treasure the past and bring us a feeling of appreciation the present. The gifts that are significant to us must always be good reminders of nice old days and lovely givers.
