While some students prefer classes where teachers do all of the talking, some other students like to have the opportunity to do part of the lectures. For years I have studied in schools where the first method is the more common. In my way of thinking, however, I believe that the best method is the second one, where the students can be part of the class. The main reasons for my belief are presented in the next paragraphs.
In the first place, when students have to do part of the lectures, I think they are more likely to learn the subjects they are studying. It is because sometimes they have the chance to prepare themselves before the lectures, so they can do well in front of the class. By previously studying the subjects, they are learning much more than just listen to the teacher. As an instance of this, when I was in the high school, I had the opportunity to do some lectures in class. Since I was told by the teacher in advance, I could prepare well the lecture. As a result, at the end of this specific course I did much better than the rest of the class.
In the second place, when teachers do all of the talking, as it happens in the lecture system, the students just have to sit, be quiet and listen carefully. They don’t have the opportunity to talk and express their ideas about the subject, so they don’t exercise their thoughts. I believe that most of the time these classes are boring, and makes the sudents loose their interest. For example, when I had to study religion at the catholic university I graduated, we students didn’t have the opportunity to talk. As I was not catholic, those classes was completely stupid for me.
Finally, I believe that classes where students can do some of the lectures are really more interesting. They can also listen to the ideas of the others, not only the teacher´s ideas. Such classes usually are more enjoyable and pleasant. Students have the chance to talk and sometimes it represents a better environment to study and really learn. Added to this, the possibility to do part of the talkings and discuss the topics presented by the teacher with the student’s ideas can produce good results.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that classes where students can do part of the talkings are much more efficient thant the tradional lecture system. By doing part of the talkings, students can be more likely to learn the topics and do better in the exams. Furthermore, classes with students doing lectures would be more pleasant and enjoyable to attend.
