People attend college or university for many reasons. For example, new experience, career preparation or increased knowledge and so on. In my point of view, the most important and common reason is for career preparation.
The society and technology change so fast now. The job market is full of competition. If we want to have a better job to earn enough money to support our living and our family, we need better sills than our competitors. College and university are good place to learn the skills that we may need in the future.
Of course we can have new experience in the college or university, especially for those people who come from small town. Everything in a big college or university may differ than those in their hometown. New life is exciting for everyone. They can learn how to get long with the people who are so different with the people they are familiar with, how to work with other new faces. The also can learn how to responsibly manage and plan daily living themselves. That is good opportunity to practice the abilities that are useful for future career.
Some people say that they attend college or university just for increasing their knowledge. They may have already worked for a long time, now they want to back to school for self-progressing. That is a good choice for them. But the precondition is they have already earned enough money to support they studying and living expense, and this precondition is not suitable for most people. In another hand, I believe that those people must want to get a better job or higher position in the job market after they finish their study in college or university someday.
Obviously, whenever people want to attend college and university for whatever reason, I think that it would be a very good choice. I believe that the most common reason they attend high education is to prepare for their future career.
