t are the criteria when it comes to measure ¡°success¡±? Holding diversified appreciation of life, definitely, different people will come up with different ideas. But I am always amazed when I here the saying that only people who earn a lot of money are successful. For, though whether rich or not can serve as a standard concerned with evaluating success, by no means
is it the unique and foremost one.
Firstly, there is great deficiency in this argument to explain the undeniable fact that, some people, though wealthy enough, apparently can not be link with the word ¡°success¡± even with a little consideration of common sense. It is very much likely that a rich man, with no effort in his own power, has inherited all his fortune from his family. If we can justify us to give the title of success to this kind of man, who contributes nothing to the society and dose not make even the least effort to pay for what he has possessed, then the word success is meaningless.
Still more, it will bring more light to see the incapability of the argument if we turn to an extreme case that there dose exist some bad seeds in our society who collect tremendous amount of wealth through an obscene, or even illegal means. Almost every day we can hear from our media that another government official committed corruption and captured ¡°dirty¡± money from his or her people, not to mention numerous social climbers with mean ambitions, still struggling to gather their power. Moreover, in every corner of the world, there are criminals making their money by means of kidnapping, robbery, trading drug and so on. Were we ready to term these people ¡°success¡±, then there leaves no justice at all in the whole globe.
In contrast, history presents us with sufficient evidence that many ¡°poor¡± people were credited with success. Beethoven is known worldwide for his great talent for music and the invaluable music heritage he left to the whole human race. However, in his life time, suffering great poverty and sorrow of loss of hearing, he had to fight fiercely in pursuit of his career. Furthermore, some people with a noble heart, in order to benefit others fully, purposely give away his fortune. An ideal illustration to this is the famous chemist Nobel, a household name associated with his great invention bomb. After given an enormous amount of money for his significant achievement, he contributed all this money to his famous fund Nobel prize, which now is one of the most influential prize to encourage human¡¯s advance. Obviously, though having never attained a state of financial success, by all means do they deserve the title success.
In short, from what has been discussed above, we can safely draw the conclusion that it is unwise, or even stupid to some degree to consider financial state exclusively as the criterion of success.
