Computer technology often brings many good things to a developing country, such as more modern assembly line and bigger prosperity. However, there is still hunger, poverty, and illiteracy in our country; our money, therefore, should be concentrated on computer technology.

The first problem is that hunger is a big threat in our society. For example, in 1980, one third of population on the Earth, two billions, was short of food; in 1995, even with a great endeavour of United Nations, we still had approximately 600 millions people who died of starvation. To deal with issue we need money to give farmers better tools, better breeds, and better infrastructures. All of those things can cost hundreds of billions of dollars. Hence, if we could solve the major problem, is it advisable for us to spend much money on computer technology?

Another concern facing us today is poverty which appears everywhere in most parts of the world from United States to the Third Countries. Viewing images of beggar children around the world, we can hardly to say that we should invest billions of dollars in computer technology. In my view, money should be spent on important projects, to provide housing for homeless people, create job for street-children, and improve community services. Thus, is it wise or unwise an enormous investment in computer technology?

Still another burning issue is illiteracy, which is the main obstacle in the development cause of human beings. Can computer technology be successfully applied in a country with a high illiteracy rate? I definitely believe that to reduce illiteracy rate we ought to direct our cash flow to essential and practical programs that help strengthen the education system, reform tuition, and upgrade education facilities. Therefore the old question, is it worth futher debate and an act of investement in computer technology?

All in all, it is probably several advantages in the long run for governments to develop technology. Nevertheless, in the short run, basic demands concerning hunger, poverty, and illiteracy that should be met; I think that is the way our money goes.
