"If a society is to thrive, it must put its own overall success before the well-being of its individual citizens."

Any society is a balanced institution where a variety of conflicts are controlled and managed. Among those various conflicts, one is the discrimination between the overall success and the well-being of its individual citizens, instead of emphasizing one side.

First of all, the whole success of society is the aim and the necessity of the flourish of society, Any society, no matter what how and when it exists, should live by the people and for the people. Since the society consists of mass of individuals, the society should meet with their need and provide them with fair opportunities to develop; otherwise, the society should fall into chaos and turmoil and, as a result, any individual could not get his success. Take the world-wide proviarity as an example. In those countries which the discriminations between the poor and the well- to-do overreach, upheaval and crisises always break out and the flourish begin to perish; to the contrary, the thrift of some countries in West European, such as Swede, could keep prosperity for centuries, because here most people obtain their development.

However, on the other hand, as a matter of fact, there exist quite a few gaps between the different societies, different nations in same country, or even between the different areas in one nation. Thus, it becomes promuptuous to require all countries or all people enter a wealthy society at the same speed. On the contrary, a wise government should allow such differences to exist to some extent and encourage people to seek their personal success. Without these differences, our society would fall into a water of stationary and lose vigor; without overall success, our society would stand on a slippery brim of selfness and avarice. Therefore, overall success and individual development should be taken into account and either one side should not be outweigh the other.

The author acclaims that if a society is to thrive, it must put its own overall success before the well-being of its individual citizens. Admittedly, this statement reveals the importance of whole success of our society; however, on the other hand, he segregates the mutual relation among the whole and the individual and the convinence loses eventually.

To sum up, for any society to thrive, it should pay attention to the overall success and individual development equally. At some time, we should enhance or decrease one side on basis of the current situation and practical need. And such balance would guarantee the boom of society.
