A new epic struggle rises on the horizon – books versus computers. Although today’s modernized society has directed its affections towards the new technologies I will recommend my school the purchase of books instead of sophisticated machinery.
As a start, books seem to be a better long-term investment than computers are. Having I mind the tremendous speed at which high technologies are being upgraded it is logical than in just two or three year the machines my school bought would be already old-fasioned. While if money are spent on tones of toms, they will stay there for as long as anybody looks for them. And they will always be helpful and available.
Secondly, the piles of classic novels, references and even encyclopedia will far outnumber the still limited sources of computers’ most popular option – Internet. Works of famous writers, poets, scientists are uploaded every day in the electronic net. Even so this process is never going to keep up with the pace of written paper publications. Further supporting my view is the poor collection of classics in the really slowly advancing online libraries.
And last but not least comes the easy reference through paper-based information. A lot of people still have a kind of fobia towards PCs. They can’t get accustomed to the monitor glaring back at them and that make s them seek other way of “surfing” for data. And here they are – pages and pages of well-organized knowledge.
Finally, I would like to emphasize that choosing on the books is a worthy decision. Having the essential advantage of being everlasting and more popular than the Internet makes books the only possible investment my school as an institution and my school as the students comprising will feel proud of.
