With the development of commutation technology, more and more means of communication have entered our life, like email and telephone, etc. They do have brought us convenience, however, at the same time, make direct communication or face-to-face communication rarer, which is actually a vital method for people to make more emotional and deeper communications.
The fact that face-to-face communication is a better way of communication is obvious seen in that it provides people share opinions, discuss issues directly. Directness in face-to-face communication is apparently more than that in other ways of communication. Through the direct contact, people can have a better and clearer understanding of other people¡¯s personality, character, physical and mental status which are all key elements in communication. For example, a face-to-face interview is sure more helpful for a personnel manager to decide whether to employ the interviewee or not as the manager can gain a direct impression of the interviewee¡¯s appearance, way of speaking, manners and even professionalism which other types of communication are unable to provide.
Face-to-face communication is, in fact, not only a better way of communication but also a more and more important way to communicate nowadays, especially that people nowadays seem tend to not trust others. Lacking real or face-to-face communication is a cause that arouses people¡¯s sense of insecurity and distrust. To solve this problem, face-to-face is the best way in that it provides chances for real gathering and eyeball-to-eyeball contact, which will sure increase people¡¯s sense of safety and trust, and thus we can make it a better community, even a better society to live in.
Of course, this is not to say that, email, telephone and other ways of communication are not important. They, especially in this rapidly developing world, are also playing essential roles. They give us more alternatives to conduct communications as we wish, and speed up the rate of communication.
To conclude, the more developed the modern ways of communication are, the more we, as human beings, need direct and face-to-face communication. This is the way we keep ourselves closer to our relatives, friends and colleagues; this is also the way we maintain the spirit and essence of our society.
