Whether we can learn from the other people has no relationship with that if his opinions contradict our own. Only in some situations like that we cannot control our temper well, the emotion will cause stress and inhibit our learning from people whose views contradict to our own. While it is really important that we are not always in temper when we discuss some issues with people who is not agree with us.
In fact we can learn from people whose opinion is similar to ours in some chances, while cannot in other chances. In some chances, to discuss some problems with people whose views are in accordance with yours cannot give you some knowledge to you. For example, if the people you communicating with has the very similar opinion to the problem, and if the opinion he holds is by accident based on the same backgrounds and is drawled through the same way as yours, then what you can learn from him? While in some other chances, we can also learn from the people whose view is similar to us. For instance, if the people drawled his conclusion from a different way, you¡¯ll learn the other way to solve the problem. Fortunately, maybe you¡¯ll find that the other way is more simple or easy to understand.
At the same time we can also learn from people who hold the different opinion in some chances, while cannot in other chances. For example if you communicate with the person who doesn¡¯t agree with you, you can think over the view he holds, and also you can find out the basement his view stand by. Once you understand the related details of how he has drawn the conclusion, both you and him will find a mirror, with which you can judge if the view you hold is correct. Even though the result is that you are wrong, don¡¯t mind that. You have learned the knowledge about the topic you discussed at lest. In fact, not only have you known which opinion right, also you have known the proper way to draw a correct conclusion. Whereas there are some situations that you cannot learn anything from the person whose view contradict yours. For instance, the person¡¯s opinion is drawled by his own innocence to the topic.
All in all, how much and what you can learn from other people is not so absolutely depend on whether his views are in accordance with yours. In fact, it is determined by the instance you are meeting.
